Takt Adherence

Takt time = the maximum time available to produce one unit to match the pace of customer demand.

Formula: Takt time = Available production time/ Customer demand

Takt adherence = the degree to which the actual production pace matches the planned takt time.

If production consistently outputs at or near takt time, adherence is high.

If production is faster (overproduction) or slower (underproduction), adherence drops.

Why it matters

Synchronisation: Ensures all processes flow at the same customer-driven rhythm.

Balanced workload: Prevents bottlenecks and overburden (mura, muri).

Inventory control: Reduces excess WIP and finished goods.

Customer service: Improves on-time delivery (OTD) because output matches demand.

How it’s measured

Planned vs. actual cycle times: Track if each unit/station meets the takt requirement.

Adherence %:

Takt adherence (%) =

(Units produced on time/Total units required)X 100

Visualization: Often displayed on production boards, dashboards, or hour-by-hour tracking charts.

Customer demand: 480 units/day
